Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow and a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud, recently asserted that American Express had reduced the company’s credit line from $1 million to $100,000, which he said was devastating for his business.
Lindell made this claim during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast. He expressed the need for support, mentioning ongoing issues his company was facing without providing specific details.
He said, “American Express, I wasn’t going to say this, we’ve been with them 15 years and we do all of our online marketing, all our shipping with them, out of the blue they took our credit line from a million dollars down to $100,000, just cripples MyPillow. No reason, no explanation, just dropped it down last Tuesday.”
Lindell suggested that this was part of a broader attack on his company and hinted at additional challenges from another unnamed entity that he would discuss later.
Bannon responded by speculating that the credit line reduction might be related to Lindell’s vocal support for Trump’s election fraud claims, saying, “Because Trump’s up 10 points and now the majority of the American people understand the 2020 election was stolen…That’s why American Express, they’re trying to debank you.”
An American Express spokesperson responded to Lindell’s claim by stating that they do not make customer decisions based on personal views or political affiliations.
In recent years, Lindell’s business has faced backlash and boycotts from major retailers after he publicly supported baseless claims of election fraud following the 2020 U.S. presidential election. As a result, MyPillow shifted its sales strategy to focus on television and email marketing.
While Lindell and Trump have continued to assert election rigging claims, these allegations have been widely rejected by courts and independent experts.
The move by American Express to reduce MyPillow’s credit line appears to have occurred amid ongoing controversies surrounding Lindell’s political affiliations and unsubstantiated claims.
