An F-35 jet has been reported as missing by U.S. military authorities following a “mishap” that led to the pilot ejecting from the aircraft on Sunday afternoon.
The incident involved a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, and fortunately, the pilot safely ejected and was subsequently transported to a local medical center.
Joint Base Charleston, in collaboration with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, is currently conducting search efforts to locate the missing jet. Emergency response teams have been deployed to aid in the search operation.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Joint Base Charleston mentioned that they are focusing their search north of JB Charleston, particularly around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion, based on the jet’s last-known position. They have also been coordinating their efforts with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The base is urging the public to cooperate with both military and civilian authorities as they continue their efforts to locate the missing aircraft. Anyone with information regarding the jet’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the JB Charleston Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600.
At present, there is no further information available about the incident, as authorities are actively investigating the situation. Fox News Digital has reached out to Joint Base Charleston for additional details, but as of now, none have been provided.
