In a harrowing incident, a Glasgow motorist found himself in a nightmarish situation as his electric vehicle (EV) seemingly took control and refused to brake. Brian Morrison, a 53-year-old man from Glasgow, described the event as being “kidnapped” by his own EV, prompting him to urgently seek help from law enforcement.
On his way home from work, Morrison’s brand new MG ZS EV experienced a critical malfunction, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably to 30 mph. Despite his attempts to apply the brakes, they failed to respond, leaving him trapped in the moving vehicle.
In a desperate bid for assistance, Morrison dialed emergency services (999) while navigating the dangerous situation. Subsequently, police intervened and strategically allowed the runaway EV to collide slowly with their police van to bring it to a stop.
Remarkably, even after halting the vehicle, the EV still exhibited attempts to continue moving, leaving the roadside repair mechanic astonished at the unprecedented incident.
Morrison expressed his gratitude that the incident occurred late at night, minimizing potential harm. Recounting the event, he highlighted the initial signs of trouble as he approached a roundabout, where the vehicle failed to slow down despite his efforts.
This alarming incident raises concerns about EV safety and the need for comprehensive assessments to ensure the reliability and functionality of electric vehicles, underlining the importance of proactive measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
